2024: “Workshop Series 2024:

The ABC of Organic Agriculture, Chromatography and Sustainable Livestock

Management by Jairo Restrepo”

September 3-6 2024

Jairo Restrepo is best known as an agronomist, agricultural engineer and worldwide lecturer, with over 40 years of experience and a trajectory that has spanned in more than 30 countries, giving workshops, conferences and private consultancies.

Born in Colombia and naturalized in Brazil, Jairo has had a critical impact worldwide, in the development of organic agriculture in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Oceania. Focusing mainly on the development of innovative techniques that recover traditional rural knowledge, emphasizing fertilization and nutrition techniques, recovery and conservation of soils, diagnosis of the soils, and the planning of transition processes for chemically treated farms that want to evolve towards organic agriculture.

Jairo has published 11 books in Spanish and sold over 30.000 copies worldwide.

Jairo will once again conduct an organic- regenerative focused workshop in 2024 at Sobremesa Farm in Bloomington, Indiana.  Regenerative agriculture focuses on various approaches to climate resilience through conservation practices, soil regeneration, improving water retention and ultimately improving soil structure, allowing for healthier plant growth.  Farmers throughout the US along with programs, supported by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), have seen the importance of employing sustainable practices on farms of various scales to mitigate the effects of climate change.  Many of the practices taught at the workshop

are easily applicable for various farm scales and for the backyard gardener.

In 2023, Sobremesa Farm was one of the featured farms for Farm Aid 2023. Being in the national spotlight gave us an opportunity to highlight the importance of the individual farmer’s role in caring for the health of the land through sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices along with permaculture principles.  In addition, Sobremesa Farm successfully collaborated with soil and water conservation organizations, Indiana University, Purdue University, the NRCS, Indiana Department of Agriculture and other valuable partners in bringing Jairo to Indiana for the first time last year. We look forward to the same collaborations in 2024. Registration will open in spring 2024.

This event will be catered with local farm produce.

The registration covers: Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks and drinks.
